We’re on the march

Today we’ve started the next phase in the stations strategy. We have invested heavily in a 10,000 capable streaming service, at 192 Kbps quality where most online stations are happy with 128 Kbps. We can include DJ’s from around the world and are in the process of managing a schedule from over 40 DJ’s who want to be involved.

Tha Gods have always been about sharing love and promoting great music so we can’t see anything going wrong! Hahahaa!

The Utopia of awesome hip hop, soul, funk, dance, disco and all those great vibes is upon us.

We’ll have live shows, playlists, video and great news, views and content.

Why? For money? No. Cos we love this shit!

Spread the word. Ya’ heard?

The Get Down… what you sayin’?

There’s been many attempts to capture the essence of Hip Hop on film, Krush Groove, 8 Mile, Wild Style and some others did great jobs, but there hasn’t ever been anything like The Get Down!

Stylish, slick, artistic and compelling.

Accurate, while being a mile off at the same time makes this series totally entertaining (or testing) for all, whether you are a Hip Hop head or a civilian just tuning in. And what a soundtrack! Well done Nas.

6 episodes in part 1 covering the early years from 1977 and featuring Flash and Herc how we all imagined them to be.

Graffiti, B-Boying, DJing, Rapping… it’s all there, all represented brilliantly with a love story threaded though it.

We love it. And while it’s easy to pick holes in it, why would you? Why not celebrate something that is celebrating this thing you love?

Business Insider spells it out:

Netflix was right to greenlight this project with this crew, however expensive. “The Get Down” artistically rides the line between original storytelling and raw, lifelike historical narrative, and that’s refreshing to see. Like it or not, hip-hop is a culturally dominating global force. Yet still it’s Made in America, right there in the Bronx. “The Get Down” gets that just right.

See the rest of their review here.

The Guardian lets you know who’s hating on the series:

Perhaps fans are seeing something critics aren’t – or perhaps they don’t care about Luhrmann’s indulgences and slack storytelling. Or maybe they’re just blinded by the killer soundtrack. Still, we’ll have to wait for those final instalments to see if The Get Down really can boogie.

Shameless plug!

Some of you may know we are also owners of a music sharing site called CloudDJ.

It’s a simple alternative to Soundcloud and Mixcloud, etc with much lower fees and lots of space for your mixes and productions.

There is a free account which allows you 350Mb file sizes and a 2Gb capacity.

The PRO account allows 1Gb file sizes and 20Gb capacity, and it costs just £1,50 per month, or £15 for the year!

You can follow users, chat and comment on tracks. There’s also a cool embed and share facility too.

The purpose of the site is to gain feedback from like-minded DJs and artists so we all improve skills in what we love to do.

If you are looking for a change to the norm, check out CloudDJ.

End of shameless plug!

Here’s some of the great content on the site so far:
