Rather than focus on a specific artist we wanted to highlight one of the freshest independent labels out there – Daupe (pronounced Dope).
This London based UK label has been serving up hip hop treats since mid 2012 and is fronted by the dope producer The Purist.
Right from the get go Daupe have featured heavy hitters from over the pond including Action Bronson, Roc Marciano, Freddie Gibbs and others.
Check out their catalogue on Bandcamp. The freshest thing of all is their diversity, quality and balls-out confidence in their releases. This is totally evident with their recent string of collaborations with Champion, which are all limited to 100 runs and include t-shirts, hoodies, caps and more. We couldn’t resist and have a 1 of 100 issue of the white t-shirt that will be framed in the studio sometime soon!
We respect their game across the board and the special edition limited runs of their vinyl makes copping their physical goods a challenge, but a worthwhile one if you keep your eyes peeled.
Highlights on the music side include (don’t forget to pause Tha Gods player below before checking these out):
Mud in my Malbec is causing a massive stir and Rap Ain’t Real, My Life Is Real do a great review here!
Griselda Ghost is hot on it’s heels, their latest release and pairing Westside Gunn with Conway is a gritty winner all day every day. We’ll do a review on that album sometime soon.
